About CleatCovers

Our Story

At CleatCovers, we are passionate about cycling and came up with our amazing covers out of a desire for something we wanted. It started with the goal of making a cleat cover that cyclists would actually want to use, that obviously protects while making it feel like you're walking in sneakers and not cycling shoes. A cover that offers something no other cover does, unmatched comfort. And after hundreds of prototypes and versions we are confident when we say that these are the best covers, period!

Our Mission

Not everything went according to plan...

About CleatCovers

Our Mission

To make the best covers for road cleats.

Our Story

As a kid riding my bike was everything. From visiting friends to travelling around town to getting myself to baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball practice my bike was always there for me. I eventually returned to cycling first as an option to get to work until an accident destroyed my bike forcing me to get a new one. After visiting several shops I bought my first real road bike. A Giant Defy 1. It has lasted 15 years and has over 100,000km while still going strong.

While getting into triathlons I then bought a Cervelo P2 because it felt like the thing to do but it really highlighted how much I hated walking around in my cycling shoes. After looking around and trying several covers I was certain there had to be a better product, so I made it.

It started with an old pair of Adidas shoes that I cut off the sole and crudely shaped it around my SPD-SL's, and voila it worked, and surprisingly well. It looked awful but it proved the concept of something more shoe-like was the way to go for something way more comfortable and stable than any of the plastic covers out there. I experimented with a lot of different materials including plastics and rubbers before settling on a stiff expanding foam that is a bit more dense than something like neoprene. What followed was a journey of learning 3D CAD software and production mold making processes. In March of 2022 officially started selling to the public and have since added more cleats to the line-up.

Do they really work?

Absolutely!! The picture on the right shows the results of a single endurance test using a brand new pair of Look Keo cleats. The picture shows the results of one 5km (~3.2m) walk. You can see the damage to the exposed cleat, it was almost completely destroyed, while the cover got a little dirty and that's all.

PS - We do not recommend walking that far in unprotected road shoes, besides the damage it is very very uncomfortable.
